For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. Now we’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for folks to purchase. The 911-heavy list this week includes a 993 Turbo S Cabriolet (sort of), A 1967 911 Hot Rod, A pretty-in-purple 964 Cabriolet, a gorgeously prepared 996, and a stunning 991 Turbo S. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.
1. 1987 Porsche 911 “993 Turbo S Body” Conversion For Sale
The 993 Turbo S is one of the most hotly desired Porsche cars on the collector market right now. Unfortunately, Porsche never made a Cabriolet version of the rapid 993, so one intrepid enthusiast embarked to produce their own beautiful reproduction in this car. Unfortunately, rather than starting with a widebody all-wheel-drive 993 Carrera 4S or the like, the car is actually built on a 1987 Carrera 3.2 liter. It looks the part, but doesn’t have the go to match the show. The older suspension design and rear-wheel-drive matched with a stock 231 horsepower 3.2 liter flat six doesn’t exactly scream out for attention, but the wide bodywork sure does. I really love this car, and with a wildly modified engine, it would make for an exciting car to drive around. Visually, the only thing this car has going against it is the chrome three piece wheels. I don’t really like chrome wheels, but that might just be a personal thing. It’s currently available at a buy-it-now price of only $32.900, so if the bodywork is done well, that looks like a decent price to me.

2. 1967 Porsche 911 Outlaw By Dick Barbour For Sale
If you aren’t familiar with the Dick Barbour name, you probably didn’t follow Porsche motorsport in the 935 era. The shop has produced a whole lot of really fast race winners over the years, and their specialty remains Porsche, both aircooled and watercooled. This Outlaw-style long-hood 911 build is as gorgeous as it is fast. Built on the lightweight short-wheelbase 1967 911 Chassis, this car sports a later 2.7 liter flat-six from a 1973 911T outfitted with S camshafts, racing headers, and a sport muffler. About 175 horsepower is probably to be expected. Matched to the power is an upgraded set of 911S alloy calipers, a full set of Bilstein dampers, a later 911 Turbo front sway bar, and gorgeous American Racing “Torque Thrust” wheels with wider rubber. It would be really hard to reproduce this car for the asking price.

3. Extremely Rare, Yellow 2008 Porsche 911 (997) GT2 For Sale
This is an insanely rare car. 2008 probably wasn’t the best year to introduce a brand new high-performance, high-price Porsche, what with the worldwide economic collapse, but nevertheless, here we are. Nobody really knows exactly how many 997 GT2s were produced, but the going word is somewhere between 185 and 205 cars left the production line for US consumption. Worldwide production isn’t known, but many suspect that there were far fewer GT2s sold than GT2 RS models. Definitely fewer GT2s sold than the venerable Carrera GT. Like I said, insanely rare. Add to that, most of the ones sold were purchased in either white or silver, making this Speed Yellow GT2 even more of a unicorn. There isn’t much information about this specific Porsche, aside from its 12,000 miles, but it certainly looks like a once in a lifetime kind of car.

4. Blue-On-Black 2014 911 (991) Turbo S For Sale
Widebody 991s are arguably the most beautiful 911 ever constructed, and this one just kills it in the looks department. The car started life as a black on black 991 Turbo S, but it’s been treated to a beautiful wrap job in a gorgeous flat-blue color. For some reason, it seems to work really well in that combination, and gives the car an all-new dignified look. The PCCB calipers, normally yellow, have been painted red for a more subdued appearance, and a set of gloss-black ADV.1 wheels really set the car apart from the ‘crowd’. It is rare that an ‘exotic’ car is tastefully modified, but I would argue heartily that this one is very well done. I love it, personally.

5. Most Beautifully Modified 996 In The World 2001 911 Carrera 2
Speaking of tastefully modified, it’s hard to make a car look worse than when you emulate a race car. However, this narrow-body 996 Carrera 2 has a lot of race-inspired cues that look break that axiom. It’s been slammed to the ground on a set of Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, given a set of Enkei nt03 wheels. Throwing on a GT3-style front bumper, a genuine GT3 Cup rear wing, a set of GT3 carbon bucket seats, and a Tequipment rear half roll-cage really gives the car a track vibe that tells everyone that it isn’t messing around. I’m sure the flat-six sounds both ear-splittingly loud and raucously engaging. Buy at the risk of your ear drums.

6. Amethyst Metallic 911 (964) Carrera 2 Cabriolet For Sale
If you’re looking for a car that nobody else has, look no further, friend. We’ve scrounged up an Amethyst Metallic 964 Cabriolet today on eBay that would make Barney the dinosaur blush. For some reason, if someone were to purchase a brand new 991 Carrera Cabriolet in a shade like this, I’d find it almost offensive. Maybe it’s the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia that make this early 90s abomination look almost appealing to me. It would be very difficult to get over that purple interior, but I’d sure give it a try. There’s something about this particular combination that makes me want to show it off to everyone I know. The 964 is already an oddball in the 911 world, why not embrace it and show the world how early-90s you can be.

I love your newsletter, but I have to submit a major gripe:
I take issue with one of the articles in your latest issue, Volume 19: Future Barn Find: 4. Blue-On-Black 2014 911 (991) Turbo S For Sale:
“...991s are arguably the most beautiful 911 ever constructed…”
Not even close in my opinion. The 993 is IT: simple yet smoothly integrated in a smaller, ‘just right’ package. It just doesn’t get any better than this version. BTW - my girlfriend just purchased a 2014 Boxster S in racing yellow. That car is FABULOUS - but I still prefer my ’97 C2 cab. If I were going to purchase a new Porsche, there is no doubt that it would be exactly like what she purchased, but, frankly, I prefer the simplicity and smaller size of the 993.
I did say arguably.
My personal preference is for the 991 over the 993, but to each their own.
