Earlier this month we told you about Porsche’s smallest recall when they called in a total of two (2) Cayennes for a few screws not tightened to the proper torque setting. This time we have word of a recall affecting nearly 13,500 vehicles worldwide in order to fix a faulty seal that could allow fuel to evaporate. Why such a big recall vs. the small numbers we’re used to? Simple, the affected Porsches come from their two best selling model lines; the Cayenne and the Panamera. More specifically, it affects both hybrid and standard power models built between March 2011 until May 2012.
Does This Affect My Porsche?
Right now, all we know is that the recall included 9,135 vehicles in China that the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said need repairs because of the risk of [leaking] fumes catching fire. It’s important to note that the rules in China specify that a recall notice report the worst-case scenario (fire) even though no such cases have been reported. As for where the other 4,000 plus vehicles in the recall are located, we don’t know yet. However, we do know that the same Chinese regulator issued a recall for 51,911 FAW-Volkswagen and Volkswagen vehicles for the same fault as in the Porsche models.

UPDATE 1/27/2015: Here in the U.S., as part of this recall, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Cayenne S Hybrid, and Panamera S Hybrid vehicles manufactured April 26, 2011, to August 2, 2012. Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel rails, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243.
