Imagine your the owner of a 2009 Porsche 911 GT3. You’re as close to a Porsche purist as can be and you’re excited to see how fast your purpose built sports car is around the Nürburgring. Now imagine as you’re making your way around the Green Hell another Porsche appears in your rear view mirror. At this distance you can’t quite make out what it is, but it’s getting closer, quickly. As you round the next corner and get close to the finish or your lap, your jaw hits the floor as you’re passed by everything you think is wrong with Porsche, the Panamera. Believe it or not, it’s a scenario that, in theory, could happen. The new Panamera was just clocked around the “ring” at 7:38 flat. The GT3 in question, two seconds slower. That’s a pretty amazing accomplishment when you consider the Panamera is a luxury sedan, heavier and has all-wheel drive to boot.
The video above comes to us via Porsche and features the 2017 Porsche Panamera as it sets the Nürburgring lap record for a luxury sedan and bests the outgoing Panamera Turbo’s lap time by 18-seconds.
