  • Fantastic video interview of a man and his Porsche!

Ironically, I have had photos of this car as my screen saver for over 4 years. To finally hear from the man himself rounds out the picture and answers many of my questions about the car that I affectionately call "Big Butt."

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Many of us air/oil cooled Porsche owners have admired Jack Olsen's BB 2 (black beauty II) and know the fate of BB 1. I even have a t-shirt with the silhouette of his Porsche and the word "Pornshe" above it!!! One of the most popular Pelican threads was to post a imitation of the Jack Olsen "look" photo. Very good-natured and done in admiration for his contribution to the knowledge bank, skills and taste.

  • Not only does Jack have one of the most functional garages around, Jack gets more out of Black Beauth II, a 2,700 Lb., 270 to the crank HP early 911, and running on Nitto NT-01 tires, than most anyone, other than perhaps a pro-driver.

I have compared Jack's front stretch, and back stretch speeds as well as his track out speeds with a pro-driver at Willow Springs Raceway. This pro-driver was driving a 2,500 Lb early 911 with approximately 260 HP to the crank. Jack's weight to HP is 10, the pro-driver Weight to HP is 9.61....fairly close. The pro-driver was most likely on Kumho 710, or Hoosier R6 tires. These are generally good for 1 1/2 to 2 seconds a lap over the Nittos. Jack's speeds everywhere are as fast....he can crank out a 1:28 at Willow Springs on a car that can be driven to the track on Nitto NT01 tires. Now that is just plain exceptional! He hits 135 on the back stretch and about 125 on the front. This tells me he is getting an exceptional run through and out of the corners, and his is very sparing with the brake pedal.

Jack's instructional video on You Tube is totally awesome. It is mandatory viewing for drivers attempting to improve their lines and their times at Willow Springs. I have watched the video at least 10X: it's starting to wear off on me. The toughest corners are no longer mysteries to me, just challenges to be overcome. And with Jack's "guidance" I am getting there.
