What will Porsche premier at the LA Auto Show?

Porsche’s press release today announced the “debut” of the new 911 Carrera on the American continent. However, savvy and loyal readers of FlatSixes.com know that the 2012 Porsche 911 (991 variant) already had it’s American unveiling at last month’s Rensport Reunion IV. Regardless of the exact wording, this will be the first mainstream opportunity for the general public to get up close and personal with the new 911. FlatSixes.com, however, will be driving the new 911 in Santa Barbara tomorrow and Wednesday (both on the track and on the road) and we’ll have pictures and our thoughts on it shortly there after.

Perhaps more importantly is the news that Porsche announced a “World Premier” of “a model boasting impressive performance and dynamic looks, exuding unadulterated driving pleasure”. That’s pure Porsche speak for you’ll have to wait and see what we do. Rumors abound on the internet as to what this new model may be. We’re quietly hoping it will be the redesigned Boxster. Unfortunately, it’s more than likely to be a drop top variant of the new 911 (not that this is a bad thing, just not as exciting).

What do you think we’ll see?

  • My guess is that they will be debuting a new smaller roadster, based on the VW Blue concept, which was shown at last year's Detroit auto show. The new roadster will most certainly run on 4 cylinder engine, probably with optional turbocharging. All these rumors have been brought up before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q6YpGSwOog
