3 Priceless Porsches Together For The First Time

Given that Porsche didn’t have any big premiers or reveals planned at the New York International Auto Show this year, we weren’t expecting anything extraordinary when we accepted an invitation to attend their private press event on Tuesday evening before the opening of the show. Boy, were we wrong!

Similar to last year’s event, the party was held, once again, in the oh-so-apropos Standard High Line Beirgarten. This glass enclosed space is perfect for a Porsche event as it serves traditional German fare and beer with plenty of room for cars and people to mingle.

The night got off to a bit of a slow start due to heavy rains through out the city (if you’ve even tried to get a car in Manhattan during a rain storm at rush hour you’ll know what I mean).

However, invited guests slowly trickled in and by 8:00 pm the room was full of journalists, local Porsche dealers, PCNA executives and even a few celebrities.

In fact, we had the chance to meet Daymond John (of Shark Tank fame) and noticed he seemed to take quite a liking to the 918 Spyder on display. I’m thinking a future Porsche owner and FLATSIXES.com subscriber??

Despite celebrity sighting, the true “stars” of the evening were the three (3) Porsches on display at the back of the room.

Jerry Seinfeld was kind enough to loan Porsche his 917 for the evening (it’s 917-022 that was once owned by Solar Productions/Steve McQueen during the filming of Le Mans). The 918 is the same one that Porsche used for their booth at the Show during the week and the 919 was a “buck” (real body and frame, but no engine, etc.).

To the best of my knowledge this was the first time these three models have been in the same room together. It was impressive and made the trip worth it just to see them side by side. Thanks, Porsche!
