Sure, it’s the middle of summer and you don’t want to think about freezing your fingers off ripping a few Porsches around a frozen lake right now. But there isn’t much of an opportunity to see the inner workings of these gorgeous Kelly-Moss built machines, so we’ll take what we can get. Better 6 months late than never, right?
In this video, you’ll see four different Kelly-Moss Porsches, including the matte black “Willy Safari”, the infamous red Safari RS, and a pair of brand new cars that we haven’t seen before. The first of them is the Vonnen Shadow Drive Hybrid-powered 991 Turbo S safari, and the luxurious Safari TX.
Most of the discussion revolves around the Safari TX, which is effectively a more plush and comfortable version of the Willy Safari. It’s got beautiful leather-wrapped Recaro seats, an interesting burnt orange tartan insert, and lots of University of Texas Longhorns touches for the owner, who is a mega fan.
These cars are doing what they were built for, which is tearing around on loose and uneven surfaces. While the Safaris are typically known for ripping through the desert scapes and shooting down dirt mountain roads, this totally awesome slice across a frozen Wisconsin lake is equally awesome to watch.
Personally, I want to hear a lot more about the hybrid 991 Safari that Kelly-Moss unveiled last fall. That Shadow Drive unit from Vonnen seamlessly adds 150 horses and 150 lb-ft of torque to an already impressive 3.8-liter turbocharged flat six. Who doesn’t need 702 hp and 666 lb-ft of torque (703 lb-ft on overboost) pumped to all four wheels in a lifted 991 chassis? That sounds like it would be the single coolest machine in a series of extremely cool machines.
Given the choice, which of these four Safari’d Porsches would you want for yourself? I’ll have all four, please.
