This site may be dedicated to Porsche, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate other marques. Take the 1973 Datsun 240Z owned by Sung Kang (the actor who plays Han in the Fast and Furious franchise) featured in the video below with Magnus Walker and 277. Kang’s build, now known as ‘FuguZ’ puts an RWB like spin on an iconic Japanese sports car and adds some serious mechanical improvements under the hood and to the chassis to back it up. In fact, we’ve been following the the FuguZ build for sometime now and got super excited when we heard that Magnus would be swapping cars with Sung for this video.
As unique and different as the Datsun is to the Porsche, they are remarkable similar in other ways. Magnus sums it up best with this simple quote, “In a way it’s similar to 277. It’s a real workout to the get the most out of the car. It’s mechanical, I’ve described it as like being sat in a buzz-saw. You hear every single rock bouncing off the chassis and you get out of it buzzed.” That sounds like a fun ride to me.
Interestingly, Kang’s feelings are polar opposite. This is what he had to say, “It was the first time I was in a car that made me understand why people love driving on these roads. The 277 has such an agile visceral feeing to it. There’s a soulfulness to the character so you feel like the cars almost taking care of you and it’s talking to you It’s different from the FuguZ because the FuguZ is almost a new car. It doesn’t have the patina, it doesn’t have the old soul yet.”
