With his signature slanted grin, Paul Walker stole the hearts of millions as a beloved actor. It was his car collection that was the envy of many enthusiasts, however. Obviously it doesn’t do well to speak ill of the dead, but even in living, we’ve never heard a harsh word said about the man. He had fans, he had friends, he had family, and he was dedicated above all to his daughter. He has 42 acting credits on his IMDB page, including a stint on The Young And The Restless in the early 1990s, but he’s by far best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise. It was because of that series that he became a hero to automotive fanatics young and old.
Now his life is going to be brought to the world in detail for the I Am Paul Walker official documentary coming to The Paramount Network on Saturday, August 11th at 9 PM Eastern. Set your DVR, or check your local listings to catch it when it airs, because if this trailer is any indication, it’s going to be a fun piece following a truly enthusiastic actor and automotive fan. As much time as Paul spent smiling, we can only hope that this documentary will focus primarily on the man’s happier moments. While the Fast & Furious movies were initially focused on the import tuner scene of the early 2000s, they gradually evolved into the mega-budget team heist international intrigue blockbusters that they are today. And with that evolution came a propensity to focus on a wide variety of automotive interests, from off-road warriors to European classics and exotica. While no Porsche was ever given the hero car treatment in the series, they did use >the $3.4 million dollar Lykan Hypersport in the 7th installment (Walker’s last), which is powered by a beefed-up turbocharged Porsche flat-six. Paul himself was an avid European car fan, though slanted more toward BMW owning a number of E36-chassis M3 LTW models. He did dabble in Porsches, however, and unfortunately he will forever be connected to the brand, due to his far-too-early death in the passenger’s seat of a crashed Carrera GT.
