Skateboarding + Drifting GT3 = Absurd but Fun Video

It seems that sometime in the late 1990s people that made skate videos split into two camps. One camp went down the rabbit hole of CKY and Jackass, while the rest wanted to show the world that what their parents dismissed as boorish and juvenile could be beautiful. We will probably reap the benefits of beleaguered skaters for decades, as the look they started pushing fifteen or more years ago has created a rising tide for all boats. From Danny McAskill to Porsches, this high minded look at hooliganism has netted some beautiful work. In the case of this footage of David Rawberts sliding an 850 horsepower BBi Autosport 911 GT3 through a ghost town, it’s beautiful and violent.

In a video that is equal parts technically impressive and dadist silliness, Rawberts has to smash a series of pinatas that spell Skate. I mean, if you had a GT3 with a Holinger sequential gearbox and a penchant for big slides, wouldn’t you? Along with him is skater Stone Hendrikx, who arrives both for encouragement, and to provide a terrain feature that Rawberts isn’t supposed to hit. Absurd, yes. Fun? Absolutely.

Oh, and if you’re going to run over a road flare, maybe don’t follow through with a massive flaming burnout to finish the poor thing off.
