Porsche and Pixar team up once again to give Sally Carrera a makeover

It’s been twenty years since the original Pixar’s Cars animated film was released in theaters, and thus twenty years since the world was first introduced to Lightning McQueen’s love interest Sally Carrera. The delicate blue 996-based character, voiced by Bonnie Hunt, was an instant Porsche movie icon. All these years later, Porsche is again working with Pixar to give Sally a modern 992-generation facelift. I’m not sure the world was begging for this, but hey, let’s wait and see what she’ll look like before passing judgement.

As part of Porsche’s design display at the Texas South By Southwest (SXSW) festival, Porsche announced the new Sally and gave some insight into how the two companies go about designing the new girl. The original Sally, as we mentioned, was a 996 Carrera, so the swap to a new 992 means she’ll naturally be quite a bit wider in the hips and a little more muscular and angular. Losing the delicate curves of the 996, I’m not sure how the more choppy design of the 992 will translate to an anthropomorphic character.

The finished product isn’t here yet. When Porsche and Pixar do get around to building the new Sally, the car will be auctioned off for charity. The result will be split between two charities, in fact. Half of the money will go to a charity supporting childhood education, while the other half will go to support the families affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

If you’re in Austin, Texas, you can stop by the Porsche Unseen display for a sneak preview of what modern Sally will look like. Obviously we’ve got a few sketches here that can give you an idea of what the result will be, but there’s plenty of other cool things to see at the display. Drop by SXSW from March 11th to the 20th to check out the Porsche Unseen section.
