Hunziker Art Car: Nova Scotia to California in a GT3 Days 5 & 6

Last month we introduced you to Nic Hunziker’s new “Art Car” project where he’ll be bartering art in order to build what he calls “the missing link between the 996.1 GT3 and the 996.2 GT3 RS” a 1999 GT3R Strassenversion. If you’re not yet familiar with the project you can check out our original post or head over to the project’s website for even more detail.

When we last left you, Nic and FLATSIXES.com contributor Brett Sloan were on their way to Nova Scotia to pick-up the donor car for this project, a 996 GT3 acquired through a lot of searching and the liberal use of original artwork to sweeten the deal. After a few technical delays, and some paperwork snafus, Nic and Brett made it to Canada and have been driving the GT3 cross-country back to LA. They’ve been chronicling that trip on Nic’s blog including a post for Days 1 & 2 and another for Days 3 & 4.

We Have Days 5 & 6 For You

After spending the morning of Day 4 at VIR, Nic and Brett made it to Cleveland that night. Days 5 & 6 were spent with a visit to Chuck Stoddard’s amazing Porsche collection and then the continued their drive across country to Nebraska. Fortunately, Brett’s been documenting the trip through his camera lens and Nic was kind enough to provide some captions.

Visiting Bruce Schwartz and his team at Stoddard Parts in Cleveland, Ohio.

That looks familiar.

The belly of the beast.

As far as the eye can see: Special reserve stock of NOS parts that aren’t for sale.

Anything you’ll ever need to restore a 356.

Bruce Schwartz’ 1969 912 Soft-window Targa.

Targa makes for a great camera vehicle.

Know your roots: Same DNA but 35 years apart.

Too bad that images don’t carry sound.

Visiting with Porsche legend Chuck Stoddard and his amazing private collection.

Long day, long shadows.

Weapon’s grade machinery.

One of these is used to harvest corn.

It’s a big country but the 996 GT3 devours miles like a champ.

Which way to the GT3 parking lot?

Fill ‘er up!

Pretty sure this won’t fit in the GT3 cup holder.

We checked, they didn’t have any pipes for the GT3.

See the USA, in a Porsche?

Going out of our way to frequent as many local businesses as possible.

As I’m finishing this post, Nic and Brett are arriving in Colorado and we’ll both have more updates for you in the days to come.
