Porsche’s insanely fast 918 Syder has recently proven to be a bit quicker than the competition, and now, we’ve got our hands on one. Yeah, okay, this one isn’t exactly fast, in fact it doesn’t even move under its own power. It doesn’t sound anything like the car on which it is based, and it’s a bit too small for us to get inside and drive. But it sure is pretty.
It isn’t often that you’re allowed the opportunity to buy a Porsche from Toys-R-Us, so when we heard that we could, we had to rush out and grab one. Of course, others had the same idea, and our local store had already sold completely out of their first wave of inventory, and we had to special order one from their nearest warehouse. When it did come in, we were happy to make another trip down to the toy store to pick up our new ride.
Where else can you get a 918 Spyder for under 20 dollars? Granted, this one is made of plastic, less than 6 inches long, and took us only about 30 minutes to but it together. Now that it’s together, it’s a fun little thing to keep on your desk and play around with, making “vroom-vroom” noises while shoving it back and forth across a flat surface. While I wouldn’t exactly call this 918 an accurate representation, it is definitely easy to tell what it is at a glance. Sure, the track width in the rear is about the same as it is in front, the strongest inaccuracy in our view. That said, it’s a pretty good facsimile for being made out of smaller bits of plastic. We grew up with an affinity for LEGO and their products, but have not purchased any for quite some time. With this set, we found that it was put together very heartily, it doesn’t feel like any of the pieces are going to fall to bits. It’s got a solid feel to it, that we enjoy.
Go get yourself one, before they are all gone!
