Because of an exclusive contract with Electronic Arts, Porsches have been a rare site in many popular racing games. When this exclusive contract expired last year, the Forza franchise became the first to include the marque as an expansion pack for two existing games; Forza Motorsport 4 and Forza Horizon 2. Then, Assetto Corsa jumped in with their simulator and a line of “Porsche Packs for all three versions of their game. Up ’til today Porsches have only appeared in the Gran Turismo series as reinterpreted by RUF. RUF’s iconic Yellowbird and several other RUF models have been the series’ only Porsches in its history. Per a recent official announcement, that is all about to change.
First announced on Playstation’s Russian twitter account in anticipation of this weekend’s European beta test, the announcement has since been echoed in Spain. The only Porsche model featured in the tweets is the GT3 RS, though we certainly hope that a full stable of Porsche models will be available in Gran Turismo Sport.
As of press time we have reached out to a Gran Turismo spokesperson about the inclusion of Porsche models in the game, but have not yet heard back. The provided photos may also give some insight into as-yet unknown tracks which will be included in the new game. We’re certainly excited to see a wide variety of Porsches modeled in Gran Turismo Sport’s new graphic’s engine.
