Cayman GT4 Named EVO Car Of The Year

This was perhaps the stiffest group of competition that Porsche has ever had to face. With the team at EVO selecting the absolute best sporting car of the year, they had to include some pretty impressive vehicles, but impressively the GT4 managed to conquer them all and win favor with the various editors and drivers. The competition even included Porsche’s own GT3 RS, which EVO agreed with our evaluation that the GT4 was more useable and perhaps even more enjoyable because of it.

Here’s are the other cars the Cayman GT4 was up against.

  • Peugeot 208 GTi by Peugeot Sport
  • Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV
  • SEAT Leon Cupra Sub8
  • McLaren 675LT
  • Porsche 991 GT3 RS
  • Honda Civic Type R
  • Ferrari 488 GTB
  • Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
  • Lotus Evora 400
  • Mercedes-AMG GT S

Having driven the GT4, I can say that it was absolutely phenomenal, and while I haven’t had seat time in the new Ferrari 488 or an Aventador Super Veloce, I can’t say I disagree with their assessment. EVO chose to focus on GT4’s driver-centric ethos and usability as the driving forces behind their choice. We’re getting to a point where there are no more ‘bad’ sports cars, because they’re all getting dynamically better with every passing year. Throughout Porsche’s history, their best cars have not always been perhaps the fastest or set the quickest lap times, but the common theme is that they always punch well above their weight class. The fact that a Cayman can take down the best of the world as the EVO Car Of The Year gives me hope for the future of the chassis. Well done Porsche, you’ve built a winner!

  • Thank you for a brilliant bit of automotive confection. Porsche did it by pure distillation- like a fine malt whisky.
