Where is Leh Keen when you need him? While it would have been wonderful to see him at the wheel of this 911, that is not where his services were most needed. For the first time in a “One Take” video that we can remember, Matt stumbled across the scene of an accident. The owner of the Chevrolet Malibu Matt Farah found in a ditch during the drive needed Leh’s help much more. Fortunately no one was hurt. The experience magnified how badly this particular 911 wants to bite back.
We are not saying the car is poorly built, or poorly tuned. Unfortunately, because of the nature of “One Take” videos, it is simply a victim of poor conditions. This 911 started life as a narrow-body SC, but very little of the base car remains. Virtually everything has been replaced after the owner’s 11 years with the car.
In place of the original 3.0L is a 3.4L flat six with GT2 cams, a K27 turbocharger and 930 4-speed gearbox. Between the cams, big turbo, and RSR clutch, the Porsche proved to be a serious handful on wet roads. Even driving slowly, Matt Farah described it as “intimidating.” With 420 wheel horsepower and 460 ft-lbs of torque, this narrow body 911 makes quite a bit more power than a 996 Turbo. The suspension has been fully upgraded as well, and the stock brakes have been swapped out in favor of 993 Turbo units.
Unfortunately, Matt couldn’t give the Porsche the exercise it so richly deserved. See that silver Malibu in the ditch? The driver says he was doing “about thirty” when he lost control and put it in the weeds. Seeing something like that will put a damper on anyone’s enthusiastic drive, particularly in an unfamiliar car.
Hopefully, Matt gets another shot in this Porsche, and gets better weather when the time comes. This 911 looks like an absolute monster, and we want to see more.
