Matt Farah Takes CJ Wilson’s Cayman GT4 For A Spin At Streets Of Willow

CJ Wilson is a renowned pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, as well as a renowned car-geek. In addition to being a successful sports icon himself, the guy also owns a racing team fielding a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ‘Grand Sport’ class. Because he loved the Clubsport so much on the track, he recently picked up a Cayman GT4 to drive on the street.

What do you do when you take delivery of your brand new Porsche? Baby it for a few miles and maybe take it on a few back-road drives after that? CJ thought the best course of action would be to hand the keys to The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah for a bit of on-track running at full chat. And more power to him for it!

Based on his reaction in the video, Matt liked the GT4 about as much as we did when we drove it. The Porsche looks great, drives great, sounds great, and is a whole heck of a lot of fun. Farah was lucky enough to drive it in the dry, though. I have to wonder what that would be like. Euphoric, I’m sure. Go watch the video and enjoy Matt’s succinct and accurate opinions of the car, as well as the lovely naturally aspirated flat-six sound of the hardcore GT4. I wonder if CJ would ever let a journalist hot-shoe like me take his Clubsport race car for a few laps?

  • Just watched Matt drive CJ Wilson's personal GT4. He mentioned it just had 700 miles on it, then proceeds to thrash it around the track bouncing off the 7800 rpm rev limiter. I guess CJ doesn't care about break in miles!

I just picked up my new Boxster Spyder last week and I am short shifting at 4000 rpm religiously. It is painful, but I don't have CJ's financial assets. The Porsche factory thinks break in is important and so does Andreus Preuninger. That's good enough for me to gut it out.
