Experience What it’s Like to be Trackside During the 2012 ALMS at Road America

2013 Porsche BoxsterThe first time we ever experienced a race we were overwhelmed by the aural experience and recounted it to you in "Confessions of a Motorsport Virgin". For those of you who have yet to experience a race in person, the crew over at Drive has put together a 27 minute video that does a great job piecing together the various sites and sounds one experiences during a race event.

Admittedly, the video starts a little slow, but if you can hang on for the first few minutes it gets much better and will hopefully entice you enough to make the trip and get to your first race. Alternatively, do what we did and skip around to find the great racing bits and listen to why we still say you just have to love a sport that you can hear well before you can see it! As always, if you can view the video directly on FlatSixes.com if you're having trouble seeing it in your email.

    P.P. People,

Enjoyed the Trackside video, which offered some of the best track sound recordings I have heard. Wish that Speed could capture that sound more accurately. Also appreciated the new views of the track, from a lower and closer vantage point. It did get a little repetitive after awhile however. They could have shown some pit scenes, which are also trackside viewable. I didn’t mind the slow beginning, as that is all part of a day at the track. Surprised they didn’t show more of what goes on after the race, whether it’s the podium show, fans packing up or hanging around to mellow in the day’s sounds and smells while sipping one last beverage, and also showing the lines of cars leaving the track. Ron Howard would do well to work some of their type of scenes into Rush.

Thanks again for passing on refreshing looks at the world of Porsche and the racing scene.

    Jim R.

      Jim,

Thank you for reading and for the comments. Readers like you are the life blood of our site. We live for comments and to hear feedback (good or bad) from those that take the time to read our updates. We’ll pass along your thoughts to J.F. over at Drive and who knows, maybe he’ll incorporate some of your suggestions on the next video. :-)
