According to reports coming out of Europe, Porsche may be considering a diesel alternative for the Cayenne line-up as early as mid 2009. It is rumored that Porsche has selected Audi’s 3.0L V6, delivering over 300hp. This is a marked turn around for Porsche and Porsche chief Wendelin Wiedeking who until now has always steered clear of diesel motors, claiming they were incompatible with the brand’s performance image.
Combine this proposed diesel offering with the expected Cayenne Hybrid and Porsche should be well on their way to lowering the company’s fleet average C02 emissions rating in order to comply with the EU’s 120-130g/km limits planned for 2012. Porsche is obviously concerned with the potential for large fines if they are not in compliance.
My German is a bit rusty these days, so my apologies if my review of the article is not 100%. Here is a link to the original “auf Deutsch”.
