The “Flugplatz” is a twin apex corner about halfway around the Nurburgring. Drivers come over a blind crest and enter immediately into a hard right-hand bend. Besides coming into the corner blind, the Flugplatz is known for unsettling the suspension on even the best set-up car and many find themselves airborne as a result. The video below shows what happens, in slow motion, when even a well set-up 911 GT2 enters what appears to be this corner at too high a rate of speed. Even the best car can’t compensate for poor driving.

The video below shows the full crash in real-time from a car that was passed by the 911 just moments before the crash. According to the reports we read, the driver of the 911 escaped without serious injury, while their passenger was treated for a broken arm. A very, very fortunate outcome. Based on the videos above and below it looks like it could have been much, much worse.
