It’s that time of year again. Porsche fans from far and near flock to the Monterey Peninsula, located along California’s picturesque central coastline, where one of the greatest gatherings of automobile tradition and motorsport heritage happens each August. As they rightly should, Porsche is taking its rightful place among this one-of-a-kind extravaganza of famous brands, priceless cars, proud owners, and thousands of devoted fans during the events from Tuesday, August 12th through Sunday, August 17th. Here are some of the do not miss Porsche attractions:
The Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours
On Tuesday, August 12th, Carmel-by-the-Sea’s Ocean Avenue, along with eighteen blocks of the downtown area, will be closed off and filled a fascinating mix of rare and exotic cars. The Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue focuses on vehicles not usually seen during the rest of the weekend, and will include wide variety of Porsche sports and race cars, with ultimately over 175 cars on display.
The Porsche Zentrum
From the 13th of August to the 16th, Porsche’s main attraction will be the Porsche Zentrum, located in idyllic Quail Lodge Club (8000 Valley Greens Drive, Carmel, CA 93923). There, visitors can revel in all things Porsche, including test drives of the latest models. Porsche Exclusive will also be on-site offering the experience for visitors to customize their future Porsche exactly to their desires. Porsche apparel and other gifts will be available at the Porsche Design Store that will be located inside the Porsche Zentrum.
PCA Werks Reunion
For a definitive look at Porsche and the Porsche Club of America, the inaugural Werks Reunion will take place on August 15th (from 7:00am to 4:00pm) at Rancho Canada Golf Club (4860 Carmel Valley Rd, Monterey, CA). On display will be hundreds of Porsche cars of all generations.
Quail Lodge’s Motorsports Gathering
Celebrated as the crown jewel in the week of automotive festivities, Quail Lodge’s Motorsports Gathering (15th of August, 10:00am to 4:00pm) focuses heavily on performance car design from the past, present, and future. Located at the Quail Lodge and Golf Club, expect only exceptional and on-of-a-kind vehicles to be on display. Porsche’s own display will feature this year’s 24-Hours of Le Mans racers, the 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR, together with its super sports car, the 918 Spyder.
Don’t Forget The Porsche’s At Auction
Gooding, Mecum, RM Auctions, just to name a few. All the major auction houses will be in attendance with a wide range of Porsche’s for sale. While the most anticipated Porsche sale has been cancelled, there are still a number of other exciting Porsche for sale and we’ve detailed them all in this preview of the Porsche Monterey auction scene.
“Porsche Unexpected” Exhibition And Book Signing
Porsche Unexpected, the long awaited book and body of work that explains the “how” and “why” of Porsche collecting will be unveiled in Carmel. Researched and written by Porsche historian Randy Leffingwell, and Cameron Ingram, the second generation of Ingram Porschefiles with photography by Michael Furman, Porsche Unexpected is sure to be a must have for all Porsche enthusiasts. An invitation only book launch party takes place on the 14th at the Porsche Zentrum. Then, on the 16th from 12-2PM, at the Winfield Gallery, Michael Furman will be hosting an opening reception and book signing.
Porsche Paddock Pub
During the Motorsports Reunion weekend, Porsche will continue its tradition of providing support for racers in a multitude of ways. First, Porsche Cars North America will host Porsche race car owners and drivers at the Porsche Paddock Pub (open from the 15th of August to the 17th, from 8:00am to 5:00pm), located in the first few garages along pit row of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. There, you can get a sneak peek of another way Porsche supports its customers: Porsche Motorsport North America’s new restoration center and activities. In addition, every race fan will surely enjoy the Porsche 917, 918 Spyder and the 919 prototype on display outside of the garages.
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance
As a final point to a week that provides sensory overload, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will take place on Sunday, August 17th from 10:30am to 6:00pm. One of the highlights among the modern concept cars on the lawn in front of the Pebble Beach Lodge will be the Porsche 918 Spyder.
