Back in 2013 Lufthansa and Porsche joined forces to chauffeur passengers between terminals and flights at the Frankfurt airport (similar to the arrangement Porsche has with Delta in certain US airports). Following that, they started offering a “Porsche First Class Excitement” option that allowed those passengers flying Lufthansa in first class, via Private Jet or as HON Circle members, to utilize their downtime by getting behind the wheel of a 911 or Panamera. This week, Porsche announced that Lufthansa is expanding their Porsche based offerings into Munich.
In partnership with both Porsche and Avis, those passengers flying Lufthansa in first class, via Private Jet or as HON Circle members, can rent a 911 or a Panamera for as little as 99.11 euros. Their sub-hundred euro purchase entitles them to a three hour Porsche rental, inclusive of fuel, insurance and 150 kilometers of driving distance. To make things even easier, several different driving routes in and around Munich are already pre-programmed into the Porsche’s navigation system.
When we fly to Europe it’s almost always through either Frankfurt or Munich. This seems like a fairly fun and relatively inexpensive way to kill a long layover. If you want to give it a try, you can book in advance for a guaranteed reservation. Or, if you’re a bit of a gambler, you can book a spur of the moment reservation, subject to availability, right in the First Class Lounge.
If any of you give this a try, please let us know how it went. I know in Frankfurt, they have 4 great routes to choose from and I’m assuming Munich will be the same way. More details at http://www.lufthansa.com/porsche
