We’ve known the “when” for months now (April 22, 2018) but “where” Luftgekühlt 5 would take place was anyone’s guess. Until tonight. Just a short-time ago we received an email letting us know that Luftgekühlt 5 would be held in the city of Torrance, CA. Still no official word on the exact venue, but if you’re planning on flying in for the event, Torrance is about equidistant between LAX and Long Beach. We’re told that further details on ticket sales and car registration process will be released over the coming days. We’ll update this post as we learn more.
Luftgekühlt 5 Location Hotel Partner
As a sign of its growing popularity and prominence Luftgekühlt 5 has partnered with the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica to act as the official host hotel for the weekend and has arranged a block of discounted rooms. We’ve stayed at this hotel before and can tell you from experience that it’s beautiful. After taking a quick look at rooms available for the Luftgekühlt 5 event we suggest you act fast if you want a room as they appear to be steeply discounted. For example, a Deluxe Ocean View with a King Bed or Two doubles is just $425 a night for event attendees vs. $659 a night for their normal rate.
Luftgekühlt 5 partners with the Petersen Museum
In another sign of how Luftgekühlt is growing, it was announced that the #Luft5 weekend (that’s right, it’s not just a one-day event now) would “kick-off” with a special reception at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Billed as “a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Porsche 964 Debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1988 (89-94), and the recent opening of The Porsche Effect exhibition, the Petersen Automotive Museum will host a VIP event on Friday, April 20 with live entertainment, food and drink, a panel discussion, and a cruise-in gallery of significant air-cooled cars.”
This indoor/outdoor event is said to feature a concourse of air-cooled Porsches, a projection wall, DJ, curated photo opportunities, food and beverage, and an exclusive gift package. Party goers will be treated to an exclusive experience in the Rooftop penthouse, which includes access to the panelists, special alcohol tastings, and more.
If you’re a Porsche owner and interested in having your car considered for this special gallery, you can submit details of your car to 964@petersen.org.
No word on ticket pricing yet, but like everything to do with Luftgekühlt, they are said to be “limited” and more information will be coming soon.
