Don’t let this tragic example of a charred 911 sway your opinion of the brand. Singer Vehicle Designs is and remains one of the premier boutique Porsche builders in the world, and this burnt example is not evidence of faulty wiring, leaky fuel filters, or shoddy craftsmanship of any kind. Besides, the wiring in these cars costs more than a base BMW 3-series, so you’d hope that it wouldn’t be due to that.
This tragic case met its end after being consumed when a private residence caught fire, burning several properties and a few vehicles in the vicinity and a few vehicles. Though the blackened twists of remaining carbon fiber and little telltale Singer touches—notably the center-exit exhaust—suggest this was once worth a pretty penny, it certainly doesn’t look like it will fetch much at auction now.
Originally valued at $628,000, now seems to have been reassessed and given an estimated value of $300,000. However, it’s unlikely that the car, now up for auction, will net anything near that. It’s more than likely beyond repair, as that much heat has a tendency to render metals far weaker than they used to be. The repairs just to bring it back to stock 964 Carrera spec would be in the tens of thousands, even if the metal were okay. But maybe you can mount it on a plinth in your living room and have a really interesting conversation piece.
