The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS has been named the 2025 World Performance Car by the World Car Awards. This marks the eighth time Porsche has received this recognition, the most of any automaker. The award was determined by a jury of 96 automotive journalists from 30 countries, who voted by secret ballot to select the top three finalists from a field of 17 performance cars.
The current 911 Carrera GTS includes a hybrid powertrain that was introduced as part of a recent update to the 911 lineup. This setup consists of a 3.6-liter engine paired with two electric motors. One motor is located between the engine and transmission, while the other is integrated into the single turbocharger. The system is powered by a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. This approach allows for the benefits of hybrid performance without significantly increasing the vehicle’s weight. According to Porsche, the hybrid system adds only about 110 pounds compared to the previous model.
Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, said, “The 911 Carrera GTS with its performance-focused hybrid powertrain takes what we have learned in racing and applies it to the road. The combination of instant torque and lightweight technology are ideal for a sports car, and advance everyday usability as well as driving excitement on every mile. We are grateful to the World Car jury for recognizing the significant engineering and development effort we have taken and are thrilled to receive this award.”
The hybrid system in the GTS models does not offer full electric driving but focuses on enhancing overall performance and efficiency. The updates apply to both the 911 Carrera GTS and Targa GTS models.
