While building something like a Porsche 917 from scratch using only a scale model might seem a little scary to some, it didn’t stop this guy. Neither, apparently, did the lack of funds or knowledge to finish it. Found on eBay earlier this week by the folks over at BAT, it's for sale with no reserve other than the $40k starting bid.
According to the seller, he built his frame using measurements directly from a 1:18 scale model. Once the frame was complete he mated the chassis to a suspension system from a C6 Corvette and two three liter, water-cooled flat sixes pulled from 2007 Subaru Tribecas (connected at the crank). The power from the motors is delivered by way of a single, standard 5-speed Tribeca automatic. The guys at BAT question it’s ability to handle the 490 HP created by the dual Suby set-up and I tend to agree with them.
As you can see from the pictures, and the video, there’s quite a bit of work left to be completed. I’m not sure I would want to be the one to take this for its first drive on the track, but a very perverse side of me wants to see someone buy it and finish it. See the full listing here.
