It was bound to happen. Rumors of a new 911 have littered the net for more than a year now. A “purists” model. One with a manual only transmission and something that hearkened back to Porsche’s early years Now, with what should be the big reveal barely a day away, pictures of Porsche’s yet long rumored 911 R have leaked.
Interestingly, the site that leaked the pics shared some technical details that seem to make the 911 R even more formidable than anticipated.
As expected, it’s manual only without even the option of PDK.
Unlike the GT3 and GT3 RS, the new 911 R seems to be devoid of obvious aero. Instead, it looks to have a retractable wing.
If the details we read are to be believed, the new 911 R is powered by a 4.0 liter flat six making nearly 500 HP and a red line of 8800 RPMs
Paint scheme aside, if this is the new 911 R, we like it. The reveal is tomorrow morning. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
