During Sunday’s World Endurance Championship, at Circuit of the Americas, Team Manthey’s 911 GT3 RSR had a problem in the pits when a a spark thrown off from a tire change ignited some spilled fuel on the ground.
Fortunately, the pit crews train for incidents like this and the fire was quickly extinguished. Unfortunately, it meant that Patrick Pilet was forced to rejoin the race four laps down. He and teammate Joerg Bergmeister eventually took the flag in fifth place
