Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), announced July 2017 sales earlier this week of 3,901 vehicles. This is a .6% increase over last July and represents another record July for PCNA. In addition, deliveries are up 2.9% year-to-date as compared to with 31,469 vehicle sales.
“For the twelfth consecutive month, we have topped previous-year results. This is an excellent outcome. In addition, we are pleased to see the new Panamera continues to be so well received,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
What the release doesn’t call out, but what the chart shows, is that all of PCNA’s growth is currently coming from the Macan and Panamera lines while the sports car models and Cayenne are dropping drastically:
- July sales of Cayenne models were 873 SUVs as compared to 1067 last year for a decline of more than 18%. This isn’t that alarming in that I’m sure some of the decline is due to the Macan cannibalizing some sales coupled with the fact that a refresh is due any moment and many buyers will choose to wait for its release.
- However, July sales of 911 models were 587 vehicles as compared to 732 the previous July. That’s a drop of more than 27% that can’t easily be explained.
- Perhaps, most alarmingly, is the drop in Boxster/Cayman sales. PCNA doesn’t break them out seperately, but 718 sales this July were 331 as compared to 732 last year. That’s a 55% decrease. Yikes! What could be causing that and is it across both the Cayman and the Boxster or just one of the models?
Then What’s Driving Sales?
The models driving sales are, of course, the Macan and the Panamera. July deliveries for the Macan totaled 1600 or a 71.9% increase over the same period in 2016. Year-to-date, Macan sales are up 35.1% and stand at 12,238 vehicles. Panamera deliveries registered at 510, a 49.1% increase over last year. Year-to-date, Panamera sales are up 38.2% with 3,511 vehicles sold.
Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Vehicle Sales for July 2017
PCNA sold 1,457 CPO vehicles this July, a 2.2% increase compared to July 2016. Year-to-date, CPO sales are up 6.3% and stand at 10,408 for the first seven months of 2017.
