Porsche capped the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with six titles, sealing the manufacturers crown as the factory team’s Porsche 963s finished third and 10th at Road Atlanta. Former Porsche Juniors Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet secured the drivers championship, and Porsche Penske Motorsport clinched the team title for the second straight year. Porsche also retained the manufacturers title in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, where Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy earned the drivers crown with Porsche and Porsche Penske Motorsport topping the manufacturer and team rankings.
Race day opened with a setback when factory driver Julien Andlauer withdrew for medical reasons. Laurens Vanthoor stepped in to drive stints in both cars as third driver, and the No. 6 spent a long period at the front before the 10 hour event concluded with both 963s taking the flag in podium and top ten positions. “I struggle to find the words – sweeping the title pool two years running is simply incredible,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. Roger Penske added, “This championship is a testament to the entire Porsche Penske Motorsport team and the hard work and dedication they invest into this program every day.” Urs Kuratle, Director Factory Motorsport LMDh, said, “Our car continues to be the most successful LMDh vehicle since the regulations were introduced.”
Customer programs figured prominently. JDC Miller MotorSports ran as high as fourth in the first half with the No. 85 Porsche 963 before setbacks led to 12th at the finish under Max Esterson, Neel Jani and Tijmen van der Helm. In GTD Pro, AO Racing’s Halloween themed “Skeleton Rexy” Porsche 911 GT3 R led at times before a collision with an LMP2 seven hours in forced repairs and an eighth place finish for Klaus Bachler, Laurin Heinrich and Michael Christensen. Wright Motorsports finished sixth in GTD, while Bachler and Heinrich closed the season fifth in the GTD Pro standings and Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson took sixth in GTD in their first full season.
PMNA customer teams added more trophies at Road Atlanta. Adam Adelson and Wright Motorsports claimed the Driver and Team championships in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge GTDX class. RS1’s Jan Heylen and Luca Mars secured the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS Driver, Team and Manufacturer titles, with Porsche winning the manufacturer trophy on a tiebreaker.
Driver reactions underscored the scope of the achievement. Matt Campbell said, “What a relief! We can now call ourselves champions of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – simply amazing!” Mathieu Jaminet added, “I’ve been chasing a success like this for over two years.” Vanthoor called the double duty “exciting and stressful,” and Bachler labeled AO Racing’s setback “brutal” after contact ended a potential podium bid.
