Porsche first sponsored a Grand-Am Rolex event at Barber Motorsports Park back in 2004. In the eight years since, a Porsche has yet to score a victory there. This past weekend the Brumos racing team was hoping to reverse that trend. While drivers Andrew Davis and Leh Keen fell short of the top step on the podium, they did put their #59 Porsche GT3 in victory lane and themselves on podium with a hard-fought 3rd place finish.
“I am thrilled with our podium here at Barber,” said starting driver Andrew Davis. “Many of my family members are here, so it’s nice to be able to spray some champagne and have them here to enjoy the podium with me. I am so proud of Brumos Racing – the race was a tough one, but the strategy calls and the pit stops really made the difference. I’m not sure we had the car that was going to win this race, but we obviously have a winning team. I do have to give special thanks to our driving mentor, Hurley Haywood. When we qualified poorly, he told us what he wanted us to do and what he expected from us. I also have to thank Leh Keen for another superb job. To be able to drive a car that was handling the way it was and hold on to the podium, despite the fierce competition, was quite an accomplishment. I am really proud of his effort and to have Leh as my teammate.”
The third place finish keeps Brumos squarely in the hunt for the Team Championship. In fact, the podium position brings the team’s total to 60 points, just 3 points behind the leader, and is good enough for second place.
Right now Porsche leads the Engine Manufacturer’s Championship with 65 total points, a 5 point lead over second place Mazda and a 7 point lead over 3rd place Ferrari. In the Driver’s Championship. Brumos’ driver Andrew Davis is in the hunt tied for 3rd place with 60 points (just 3 points behind the co-leaders of Andy Lally and John Potter – both from Magnus Racing).
