NEW YORK – Seven people have been arrested in connection with two robberies where people thought they’d bought a cheap Porsche on Craig’s list, only to be beaten up and robbed, police said. Police said 17-year-old Agniesika Banach, of Maspeth, placed an ad on Craigslist in both incidents for a high-priced Porsche automobile.
Banach and six men ranging in age from 16 to 19 were arrested and face unspecified charges, police said.
The first robbery took place on Dec. 6 in Baldwin and the other happened in Freeport on Nov. 26.
In the most recent incident, police said two male victims responded to an advertisement on Craigslist for a 2002 Porsche auto for sale for about $22,000.
The woman who posted the ad told the two men to meet her Thursday evening at a location on Lorenz Avenue in Baldwin, N.J., police said.
When the two men, ages 46 and 20, knocked on the door, five men ?- including one holding a gun — attacked the victims from behind, punching them and throwing them to the ground, police said.
The robbers demanded money and two victims handed over $50, officers said.
The robbers then fled eastbound on Lorenz Avenue in a black, four-door sedan, police said.
The incident happened just weeks after a similar robbery in the neighboring town of Freeport.
On Nov. 26, a Pennsylvania couple responded to a Craigslist ad for a 2006 Porsche, police said.
When they arrived, a group of men attacked them, officers aid.
Police said the wife lost her cell phone and the husband lost the cash he had brought to buy the car. Police didn’t say how much was taken.
Nassau police will release further details about the arrests during a press conference at 3 p.m. from the department’s Mineola headquarters.
