Has it really been four years? Almost! It was September of 2012 when Porsche first introduced us to the Panamera Sport Turismo concept. Since then, we’ve heard rumors of a coming Panamera Wagon, even the possibility of a “Cayvan“. Today, we learned that Porsche will sell a wagon variant of their second generation Panamera here in the U.S.!
“We have to have some patience for [the wagon] to arrive in the U.S.,” said Zellmer, CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “But we are confident that this car will be well received here, despite the fact that this country doesn’t really like hatchbacks or wagons.”
Zellmer didn’t confirm the timing on the new Panamera Wagon in his discussion with Automotive News. He did say it wouldn’t be in 2017, so we’re probably looking at a 2018 delivery window. The redesigned Panamera sedan will debut this September at the Paris auto show and the wagon version expected to go on sale, in Europe, sometime in 2017.
There’s also a possibility of a five-seat Panamera for here in the U.S. Apparently dealers are clamoring for it as they lose sales to brands that offer more passenger seating space. Personally, I could care less about the addition of a 5th seat. However, if the Panamera Wagon looks anything close to the original concept you see in the pictures above, that could easily become our new dog hauler.
