Why is the 914 treated with such apathy within the Porsche community? It is a brilliant car that handles much better than its 4-decade-old appearance would lead you to believe. The tiny two-seater, especially in 6-cylinder guise, as this one is, has to be one of the best driving cars Porsche ever produced, and in its day was a true force to be reckoned with.
38 years ago, Mr. Jack Griffin purchased this blue six-pot beauty, which at the time was already 6 years old. Since then, he’s fitted the car with wider wheels and tires, and most tellingly a more powerful 2.5 liter engine has replaced the original 2-liter. That original engine only produced a tick over 100 horsepower, but Jack’s two-and-a-half motor is now pumping out nearly double that, making for quite a fun Porsche indeed.
While the visual aspects of a 914 are somewhat polarizing, inspiring a love-it-or-hate-it reaction, Griffin says “I can’t say it’s beautiful. It’s interesting.” And that is possibly the best description of a 914’s exterior that I’ve ever heard.
