For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. We’ve tracked down six exciting Porsches for folks to purchase today, including a drop-top stunner, a slow and steady cruiser, a fast and loose high-strung racer, a long-hood with a fancy plastic rear window, another German tuner slant-nose job, and a great candidate for restoration at a really good price. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.
1. Arena Red 1996 Porsche 993 Cabriolet
Let’s be honest, has Porsche ever made a car in a nicer color than Arena Red? It just looks fantastic on everything, and really makes the beautifully soft lines of the 993 body pop. This 993 might be my favorite Porsche ever on Ebay, as its the perfect color combination, and I really have a thing for open-top cars. The top on my Boxster hasn’t been up in over two months, and I love it that way. There is just something refreshing about leaving work for the day and being able to feel the wind through your hair that just melts away all of the cares in the world. Without a top surrounding you, the sounds of the exhaust note are amplified, the smells and sights of driving are more readily accessible, and the sunlight on your face just feels right. The perfect day for driving is made all the better by having an open top. Get this car, but make sure you invest in a good pair of sunglasses and a few bottles of sunscreen. You’ll need them, trust me.

2. 1950 Porsche 356 Pre-A ‘Bent window coupe’
Driving a bent-window 356 is an altogether surreal experience. You’re brought back to a simpler time when cars could be a little more visceral. Your connection to this 356 is going to be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. The large steering wheel requires a firm grip, but light inputs. The gear shifter requires both patience and force. The pedals require a two-footed fast-paced dance to be properly manipulated. The early 356s are excellent dance partners once you’ve learned the steps. There is an old German saying associated with these cars, something about being at the tiller of this vessel is described as “sugund und wischen” or “sawing and wiping”. That may not sound enjoyable, but I can assure you wholeheartedly that it is. This 356 is one of the early progenitors of the entire Porsche product line, and if you’ve ever wanted to experience history, you should get this bent-window coupe to add to your collection.

3. 2001 Porsche 996 GT3 Cup Racing Car
Do you fancy yourself the racing world’s next Patrick Long? Are you looking to get into really fast Porsche racing on a relatively low budget? Do you want to definitively move toward the front of the pack at your next PCA DE? Look no further than this 996 GT3 Cup. The car is described as being “super clean and meticulously maintained”, which is always a plus when looking at a used racing car. The current bid, though still below the reserve, is well below what it would cost to buy a 996 GT3 street car, which wouldn’t even be a fraction as visceral and engaging. A GT3 street car is a fantastic proposition, but it doesn’t even hold a candle to Porsche’s racing “Cup” car. Ten steps forward in a racing environment, and if you’re ready to take that next leap into a dedicated track car, this one should certainly be on your short list.

4. 1967 Porsche 911 S Soft-Window Targa
As rarities go in the early Porsche 911 world, a 911S Soft Window Targa is pretty high on the list. The 911S is rare, desirable, and valuable. The 911 Soft Window Targa variant is rare, desirable, and valuable. Mix the two, and this car is much more than the sum of its parts. A stunning beauty in Golf Blue, this 911S has the sublime high-revving 2 liter flat six, the upgraded wider bumper and rocker deco rubber strips, and the fantastic looks to back it up. The soft rear window behind the targa bar is made of flexible plastic and vinyl, ready to be zipped out at a moments notice for a nice drive in the countryside. Pop the top, zip out the window, and roll the windows down, you’ve got one of the nicest driving experiences in the world. The sounds, the sights, the fantastic early engine, and the short-wheelbase driving experience all conspire to make this one of the best Porsche cars ever sold. If you want an open-top early 911, the Targa is your only option, as the 911 Cabriolet wasn’t introduced until 1983, well into the impact-bumper years. Is it worth the 200K pricetag? Yeah, maybe it is.
Seller claims all is in good condition, and all numbers match. One thing is for sure, as one of only 128 911S SWT cars sold in 67, you probably won’t see another one any time soon.

5. 1986 Porsche DP 935 Turbo Slant-nose “600+ horsepower”
Design und Plastik, the words behind DP Motorsport’s acronymic name. DP worked in conjunction with Kremer Racing to help develop the 935 racing cars slant nosed bodywork, and in the process helped create a legendary design. Immediately DP knew that they had a hit on their hands and started offering conversion kits for street 911 cars to convert to slant noses. At the same time, they started building factory conversions and selling them as complete running and driving “Street 935s”.
This car started life as a 1986 930 Turbo, and has received a number of power and aesthetic upgrades. It has a cockpit mounted boost controller dial for goodness sake, how much cooler could this car get? We’ve featured other tuner Porsches in our eBay segments before, but this one is probably the one I’d most like to own.

6. 1960 Porsche 356B T5 Coupe Restoration Special
Restoration is a popular category of Porsche ownership these days. As the value of the early aircooled cars continues to increase, people are hauling their cars out of the woodwork to overhaul and take to auction, hoping to make a few greenbacks. This car, while not exactly rust-free and sound is a great starting point for a good driving 356. At this price, it could be a great project for someone not exactly interested in having the prettiest car. At a current bid of only $7,700, you certainly won’t find a less expensive starting point, and it even comes with an engine!
Were I in a position to take on an extensive project like this, I would snap it up in a second. I probably would not, however, proceed with a concours restoration. I would begin by installing new floors (obviously). Then I would give the car a complete mechanical overhaul, rebuilding the engine, the braking system, the steering, the suspension, and the fuel system. The glass all looks intact, so I would then just slam any old seat into the passenger compartment, perhaps even a pair of cheap beetle seats, and just drive it as is. Patina only exists once, and you can’t replicate that kind of look to this car. The chrome and trim bits all look pretty good against that nasty grungy bodywork, and for me, that works great. Paintwork is probably one of the most expensive parts of a restoration, and given an excellent paint job, this car would then fade into the backdrop of hundreds of other 356s, making it less unique. Keep it as is, drive it every day, never regret it!
