Remember how everyone cried foul when the 991 GT3 was announced to be PDK only? The good doctor was said to be rolling in his grave and prices for used manually equipped GT3s started to climb. Then, last week, Porsche revealed their long awaited 911 R; a911 built on the GT3 ethos, but lighter, stripped down and offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. The only problem, Porsche’s only making 991 of them and according to multiple stories on the interwebs they’ve mostly all been spoken for already.
Never fear. According to a story on Autocar the next GT3 will offer the same 6-speed manual transmission found in the R. Not everyone will be happy, however as the GT3 RS will remain PDK only. Porsche wants to ensure that their track focused street car remains fastest as you can’t argue the fact that PDK can shift faster than you!
Perhaps, more importantly, in the same story Porsche’s GT boss Andreas Preuninger said that the GT cars (other than the GT2 of course) will remain normally aspirated and won’t get turbo charged engines like the rest of the 911 line-up.
