We’ve all talked about it. The coast to coast run is on nearly every enthusiast’s bucket list. Whether inspired by Cannonball Run, or just a desire to see the country this is one of the ultimate journeys. These eight Canadians picked up three 1970s-1980s 911s from The Stable in San Francisco, and drove them to Kitchner, Ontario. These intrepid souls did very little preparation of their new Porsche, and instead opted to handle challenges as they came.
The Adventure
Leaving San Francisco was just the start for these fearless Porsche enthusiasts. From lapping Laguna Seca to cruising with Magnus Walker, their experiences in California alone were the stuff of many enthusiasts’ dreams. The fun didn’t end there, and included stops at Cadillac Ranch, St. Louis and Chicago.
The Crew and Cars
Three Porsches, eight Canadians. Though Porsche bestowed the 911 with a rear seat, condemning an adult to riding in the back of one cross-country is friendship-ending material. Thankfully the fourth pair had the good fortune to take the group’s camera van on the trip. The three Porsches were a 1988 911 Targa, a 1987 930 Turbo, and perhaps most ambitiously, a race-prepped 1970 911E. Each car had its quirks, particularly the fully-caged 911E, which often needed to be bump started due to a charging or electrical issue.
The episodic films of their journey have been compiled into a 47-minute long feature film, available freely on YouTube. Let us know in the comments what your perfect road trips are.
