Have you always dreamt of becoming a Porsche race car driver? Not sure how to start? Porsche can help! Their new “Porsche Racing Experience” offers a turn-key intro to professional racing and training for those who qualify.
As a Porsche owner, you’ve long had the option of attending the Porsche Sports Driving School as part of the Porsche Driving Experience. Now, starting this Autumn, Porsche is expanding their offering with the new “Porsche Racing Experience”. Meant to bridge the gap between enthusiast and professional racing, this new program is said to offer customers “a thorough and professional entry into motorsports“.
“Porsche Racing Experience” paves the way into motorsport
A specific search for and support of motorsport talents has long been a tradition at Porsche known as the Junior-program. As a result, world champions and Le Mans winners were established. Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb, Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber all benefited from the program. If you’ve ever read our post explaining the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid, then you know that they use this system to scout and find new talent. For years, the base of that pyramid has been the Porsche Sports Driving School. Now, with the introduction of the Porsche Racing Experience, they’ll be adding to that base.
“We have set ourselves the goal to take care of our customers from their first Porsche Experience Center visit via the Porsche Sport Driving School through to our motorsports activities with the highest possible quality. Everything that is going to be part of the new “Porsche Racing Experience” is unique and typically Porsche”, Detlev von Platen explained, Member of the Executive Board, Sales and Marketing.
Developed as a customer friendly initiative the Porsche Racing Experience consists of three progressive levels:
- In level 1, customers will be prepared for their first race season in a five-day long “boot camp”. Those that succeed over these five days can move on to the next level.
- Level 2, this is where things get serious; a first full season in racing professional supported by Porsche (think the Porsche Sports Cup or Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge).
- Level 3 features individual career planning and consultancy as well as in-depth coaching with a close relation to the motorsport-goals of the customer. In the process, the customer gets access to all national and international Porsche racing series (the Porsche Carrera Cup and the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup are two such examples).
Just like at Le Mans and other WEC races, Manthey-Racing GmbH will run the program on behalf of Porsche. For the supervision within and around the race car, DMSB and Porsche certified instructors will be in charge. Like in the Porsche Junior Program, coach Sascha Maassen will advise and assist the participants of the Porsche Racing Experience.
What does the Porsche Racing Experience Cost and How Can You Participate?
Level 1 training starts this year, from October 16th to the 20th, at the Vallelunga racetrack in Italy. In a comprehensive and intensive workshop, a maximum of 20 participants will learn the basics for their entry into motorsports in theory and practice. For example, training includes an introduction into the technical aspects of the car, a medical check with fitness- and mental-coaching, a close-to-reality race simulation as well as virtual simulator-training copious amounts of track time. The racecar for the Porsche Racing Experience is the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The price for participation at the level 1 event in Vallelunga is 49.911 Euro. Porsche says registration is possible at www.porsche.com/racing-experience, but we have yet been able to get the site to work.
