Thinking about buying a used Boxster and wondering what year and model will give you the best deal? The crew over at JP & Co. have put together what they call a “Porsche Boxster | Buyer’s Guide & Depreciation” video. It’s not a “Buyer’s Guide” in the true sense of the what we’re used to. It doesn’t point out what to look for on a PPI, or things of that nature. Instead, it looks at the current market value and depreciation curve of most Boxster models from the 986 through to the 718 (inclusive of the Boxster, Boxster S, Spyder, Black Edition and GTS) and provides insight on when the best time to buy each model might be.
You could spend days surfing around various sites trying to compare multiple years and models trying to put together your own data. Or, you could utilize the charts in this video as a starting point for your research and go from there. Unlike the similar video they produced on the 911 Carrera, this Boxster version doesn’t account for mileage and/or options so take that into consideration while digesting the data.
If you watch to the end of the video I would be curious if you agree with some of their generalizations? Especially as it relates to the stereotype of who might buy a cabriolet and why and also their opinion regarding the 986. Personally, as someone who recently purchased a 986 Boxster, I can tell you that buying a well researched version, with a good service history and a comprehensive PPI has been one of the better Porsche purchased I’ve made in quite some time.
