For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. We’ve tracked down five exciting Porsches for folks to purchase today, including a 6-speed family-truckster, an Ex-Paul Newman racer, a Gemballa speed machine, a low-mile Speed Yellow 993 Turbo, and a special up-and-coming future collector car. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.
1. 1995 Gemballa 993 Turbo Cabriolet For Sale
Oh boy, I’m not sure where to start on this one. The car is visually polarizing to say the least. In all honesty, I think I might kinda like it. It has a flachbau thing going on, and those covered fixed headlamps sure are ‘unique’. That’s what this car is all about, though, isn’t it? Uniqueness. One thing is for sure of this Porsche, though. If you buy it, you’ll never see another one like it.
In the mid 1990s, Uwe Gemballa and his merry band of Porsche hackers got to work on this 993 Carrera 4 in order to build something Porsche hadn’t thought to build; A 911 Turbo Cabriolet. The 911 Turbo hadn’t had a drop-top version since the 930 in 1989, and the 993 certainly showed no sign of changing that. Gemballa got to work on a 993 C4 Cabriolet, and swapped in all of the go-fast bits of a Turbo, and then some. Just look at that engine bay shot, you can’t even see the engine for the massive intercooler they’ve stuffed back there.
The inside is a mid-nineties stock-broker’s dream, trimmed in bright white and carbon fiber. I’m not sure I could stomach that on a regular basis, but it certainly plays to the car’s character.
For asking $200,000 for the car, the seller provides surprisingly little information about the history or provenance of the vehicle. Either way, it looks to be in good enough shape to be at home in any weirdo Porsche collection. That Strosek 964 from a few weeks ago is still for sale, and this Gemballa would certainly look nice parked next to it. Buy both!

2. 1974 Porsche 911S Ex-Paul Newman Race Car For Sale
Back when this 911S was brought to auction at Mecum’s Houston sale in April, we previewed the sale. I said it then, and I’ll repeat it now, Mecum’s Houston sale was the wrong place to list that car. The crowd was wrong, the venue was wrong, and (sorry Mecum) the auction house was wrong. When this car was a no-sale in Houston, I had hoped that it would show up at last weekend’s Monterey auctions, but that didn’t happen. Instead, the seller has opted to try to sell it on their own through eBay. Whether it works or not, I suppose we’ll find out.
The car has a number of great things going for it, including Paul Newman history, Sebring 12 hour history, Daytona 24 hour history, and even a class victory at Mid-Ohio. It was restored about 7 years ago to pretty exacting specifications by Jeff Sime, though it was fitted with a number of modern improvements, making it an excellent car to take vintage racing. It’s a beautiful livery, it’s light and fast, and it should provide years of racing service. Go get it!

3. Low Mileage 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo For Sale
By now, you’re probably aware that Marshall Goldman in Ohio is selling off the private collection consisting of hundreds of cars, dozens of which are Porsches. This 993 Turbo comes from that collection. With only 8200 miles on the odometer, this 993 Turbo is certainly what some would call a “creampuff”. On the one hand, it would be difficult to put any kind of miles on this car, as the value would continually diminish. On the other hand, it would be great to drive a so-called time capsule version of this car, exactly as it would have rolled out of the factory 18 years ago.
The asking price is a bit high for 993 Turbos, but it is doubtful you will find one in this kind of condition, or in a rare color like Speed Yellow anytime soon. The prices for rare 993s seem to be trending upward, and there could come a day soon where this will be looked back on as a ‘cheap’ buy in. If it were mine, I’d put the stock seats in storage, and find myself a set of hard-back sport seats for this one, the backs painted in matching ‘Speedgelb’, of course.

4. Rare 2005 Porsche Cayenne V6 6-speed For Sale
This, for some unknown reason, is one of my personal ‘holy grail’ Porsches. There is something about the ability to ‘row your own gears’ in a full-sized SUV that appeals to me. Perhaps I’m a lunatic, but whenever I see a Cayenne with a stick, I get a little weak-knee quake going on.
Very few of these were made, and even fewer were sent stateside, but this one is currently on eBay with a very attainable price of only ten thousand dollars. Sure, it’s got 160,000 miles racked up on it already, but those VW sourced VR6 engines are well known to be reliable, and assuming everything has been cared for, it should easily run to half a million miles.
Were this one to end up in my driveway, it’d lose those silly headlight and tail light ‘smoked’ covers, gain a set of 22″ Rinspeed wheels and a Turbo front bumper, and all of the chrome trim would be swapped out for the darker trim found on titanium edition cars. VR6 engines respond well to turbocharging as well, and it surely wouldn’t be too hard to adapt one of the transverse engine turbo-kits to fit this longitudinal engine.

5. 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 For Sale
The days of cheap 914s are coming to a close. There used to be a time when a $5000 dollar 914 was a decent car, and could be driven pretty much anywhere. These days, a 914 that cheap would hardly be recognizable as a 914. This car has a buy-it-now price of $15 grand, and it might just fall short of that number in my book. It wouldn’t take much, however, for this to be a $20 grand car.
The little runabout looks pretty solid from the underside photos posted to the listing, and the paint looks intact. The 1974 model year 914s are a personal favorite of mine, as they have the best engine of the fours and they haven’t yet gained those huge rubber monstrosity bumpers of the 75/76 models. With a little TLC, this car could be a great weekend driver for many years to come. Get yours before they are priced into the upper atmosphere.

Honorable Mention – Ketchup n’ Mustard 2013 Porsche Boxster S
Oh boy. Who decided that would be a good color combination to order? Ronald McDonald anyone?
