Over the decades Porsche has turned out some, shall we say unique, color combinations. Our favorite sports car company is known well for developing a wide spectrum of color palettes, and at no time in history was this more true than the heady days of the 1990s. That’s where this purple-over-purple Carrera 2 Cabriolet comes into play. Currently on auction with our friends at AutoHunter, this Amethyst Metallic drop top with only 44,343 miles on the odometer has been roaring through my head all week. It’s been hard to write, think, sleep, or eat with this gorgeous cab running laps in my mind. Please, I am begging you dear reader, place a bid on this machine and buy it so that I can thing about something, anything, else.
44,000 miles is barely broken in for the 247-horsepower 3.6-liter flat six aircooled engine. And you’ll be glad to know that this one is equipped with the 5-speed manual gearbox, so you don’t have to deal with a terrible Tiptronic, and can instead enjoy the connectivity of human and machine. Nor is it the undesirable Carrera 4, so the steering is nice and crisp without the front wheels needing to drive the car forward. Based on the pictures of this car, it’s in exquisite condition with a nice two-tone purple-and-parchment interior to match the Amethyst on the outside. The current owner has fitted the car with the fancy new Porsche Classic touchscreen radio with navigation. Yeah, I’d really love an opportunity to drive this thing on every nice day with the top laid back. Please help me! I need to focus on something else for a while.
Apparently this car was given an extensive service this summer in preparation for this sale. The seller bought the car back in 1997 when it was just a couple years old with 33,000 miles on the odometer. Over the next 24 years, they only averaged 400-ish miles per year in the driver’s seat, which is a travesty. Porsches are built to be driven, and this one is no different. It should have significantly more miles on the odometer, and while I wish it were me to be able to rack them up, I’m secretly hoping one of you will decide they need it to be them more than I need it to be me. Are you ready for a bidding war? Don’t worry, you’ll probably win.
If this pretty purple Porsche looks right up your alley, head over to AutoHunter for more information and photos, and an opportunity to bid.
