Danton Arts Kustoms of France certainly wowed the crowds with their matte purple front-engine V8 hot rod with a chopped 964 body shell when it debuted in Monaco. It’s hard to not see this car and immediately do a double take. It takes a very loose interpretation to call this thing a Porsche, because very little remains of the original 964 they used for this project. There are parts of this build that are appealing, certainly, like the chopped roof and split front window. I think that would play pretty well on an actual 964 outlaw build. And that stripped back custom interior is a thing of beauty.
With a giant Ford V8 where the gas tank used to be, and a trunk where the flat six engine used to be, this body-on-frame hot rod certainly appeals to the part of my brain that still calls Michigan home, but then my Porsche sensibilities take over. This car plays hopscotch with the border between awesome and awful. In either case, it’s certainly attention grabbing, which is what Danton had intended with the build. If this Porsche based rat rod wasn’t sensational in one way or another, we wouldn’t still be talking about it.
In any case, they’ve done a quality job with this build, though perhaps not to the tastes of many of our readers. Would I personally want to go for a rip around the block in this thing? You bet your bonnet I would, it sounds like a monster and grabs all the attention. Would I want to own it? Not a chance.
