Driving for Porsche and representing the brand as a brand ambassador seems to have had an effect on Mark Webber. The retired Formula One and Porsche WEC driver appears to have forgotten how to drive a front-engine, rear wheel drive car. This has not been confirmed, but we suspect that it may have impacted Mark’s chances at taking over the test driver role from The American on the new season of the Grand Tour.
After setting a blisteringly fast lap in a new GT2 RS, Webber changes over to a Mercedes AMG-GT; a swift car in its own right. Unfortunately for Mark, years of driving Formula One cars, mid-engined Porsche LMP1 cars, and presumably a steady diet of 911s, Caymans, and Boxsters has left him ill-suited to the AMG’s more conventional layout.
Mark, we really want to see you on the Grand Tour, but you’ve got to brush up on your non-Porsches!
