Every year, the Porsche museum has an event unlike any other. Sound Nacht. On this special night they actually start the museum cars, let them run, and rev them for those in attendance to hear. Porsche knows that their cars, more than most, incorporate an aural quality to the experience, and they are more than happy to show that off. For the first time, the sound of Porsche can be experienced worldwide! On the 18th of Sept., the first digital Porsche Sound Night will take place under the name “Next Level.”
While Soundnacht usually goes down at the Porsche museum, this time the Weissach development center will get involved as well, with simultaneous livestreams from both locations. The museum will have its typically awesome road cars on display ready to be cranked up for the world to hear them run through the revs, while the dev center will have some exciting race cars ready to zoom into our hearts.
So what kinds of cars will we get to hear at this event?
- The PDK prototype Porsche 962C
- Walter Rohrl’s 924 GTS rally car
- The 57th 901 ever built
- A 907 Kurzheck hill climb car
- Formula E driver Pascal Wehrlein will take a lap of the test track in the 99X Electric
Naturally there will be so much more than that on display for the world to see and hear next month, but that’s all Porsche has let on to so far. We have admired this event from afar for years, and it’s amazing that Porsche is finally allowing the world to experience it firsthand. Of course it won’t be the Champagne, caviar, and fancy dress that it typically is, because we all know we’ll be livestreaming in our pajamas, but I’m sure it will be an event that none of us who watch will ever forget.
If you had a choice of one Porsche to include in this year’s Soundnacht, which would you most want to hear?
