Back in June, Petrolicous (one of our favorite sites) featured Guy Newmark’s Porsche 356; a 1964 356C driven daily with nearly 1,000,000 miles. Yes, that’s right, six zeros. Well, according to a post on Rennlist someone stole the Porsche from his garage this past Friday night in San Pedro, CA.
How You Can Help
It’s not like this is a Honda or Toyota. It will be pretty hard for a Porsche 356 to just disappear. The plate number is WPN II and the VIN is 220286. Be sure to tell your other Porsche friends and web-sites, Tweet this post and share it on Facebook. Let’s get an “Amber Alert” going on this 356. Guy posted his phone number in the Rennlist thread and if you see or hear anything about this Porsche call your local Police and then call Guy. Let’s help him get his Porsche back!
UPDATE: Holy Sh@t! We posted this alert early afternoon on Monday the 19th. Based on what we just read, the 356 has been found! According to a post on Rennlist,
Gentlemen, there is a good ending. They found “blue”! I cannot say how thankful I am to all of the people who spread the word. A woman saw a post from the internet and recognized the car sitting in a park. The wiring under the dash is all ripped out – the idiots who stole it couldn’t figure out how to hot-wire it (thank god!). The police have surrounded it and hopefully can get these idiots off the street. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Jill, Guy’s girlfriend
We have a call into the owner to confirm, but it sounds like there might be a happy ending to this!!
UPDATE: We spoke to Guy himself and he confirmed that the 356 has, in-fact, been found! Apparently the thieves pushed the car out of the garage and down the street. As mentioned in the update above, they ripped out all the wiring and when they couldn’t get it started they just left it on the curb.
After the story of Guy’s 356 was posted by us, Jalopnik and other sites, someone saw a post on Facebook about his car and called Guy to let him know there was a Porsche, matching the description of his 356, that had been sitting in-front of their home for the past 3 days. Guy said at first he didn’t believe the caller as she described it as a different color blue than his. Having nothing to lose, he drove to her address and found his Porsche!
It’s already in the shop getting repaired and having Lo-Jack installed (kinda like closing the barn door…). Anyway, the woman who provided the tip is getting a $5000 reward! Guy says he plans on giving her the money tomorrow. When we last spoke to Guy he was out with friends celebrating. What a great ending!
