LEGO are one of the truly great children's toys that promotes creativity, interest in engineering, and helps develop motor functions. Of those who craft with LEGO, some never really grow up, they simply begin developing more elaborate "builds". Having seen a scale replica of the buildings along Michigan Avenue at the Chicago LEGO store, I know what art can be created with LEGO as the canvas. This set however, is more than art; it is an astonishingly accurate scale model set by creator Malte Dorowski. Dorowski has assembled (literally), his idea of the perfect Martini racing team complete with Ford C-Type Transporter, 936, 935, and the long tail 935-77 "Moby Dick". Even a matching Volkswagen T1 parts transporter has been crafted to complete the set.
While all of the cars assembled here are Martini livery, they are all Martini over white, rather than the grey that we selected as the best in our top 10 Porsche Motorsport Liveries post. Despite that, we'll forgive Malte, as he has painstakingly made these delicate LEGO Porsche creations by his own design. While most of us are content to simply follow the directions, Malte thinks outside the proverbial LEGO box.
The C Type transportation special used by Porsche was built by Ford in 1976. The cab-over truck was painted in Porsche and Martini colors, and equipped with a two level enclosed rear for transporting the team's many racing cars. The truck could fit as many as four Porsches, though I'd wager that number dropped when the long tailed "Moby Dick" car was involved. Mr. Dorowski has included these same details in his recreation, making a fully operational elevating rear hatch, a faithful replica of the wide skylight, and many other details that I would have thought unfathomable in bricks.
Chalk up another great Dorowski Porsche LEGO creation. Check out some of Malte's other creations we've covered for you like this RWB Lego Porsche or this Flying Lizard LEGO Porsche. If that's not enough, check out his own gallery here.
