When you’re a LEGO minifig for sale in the Porsche museum gift shop, you want to see a whole lot more than just that gift shop. Once the lights go down, these two little plastic miscreants hop aboard their brick-built Porsches for a run through the now-vacant museum. Zooming a new mid-engine 911 RSR through the museum is a tiny plastic recreation of one of Porsche’s factory GT drivers, and the 930 is driven by an adventurous young woman. Louise Piëch famously owned the first 911 Turbo ever built, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to believe that this minifig is meant to represent Ferdinand Porsche’s own daughter.
It isn’t like Porsche and the Germans to let their hair down and have fun with their marketing materials. For decades they’ve released stodgy and dry video one after the next, but this one is different. This time they aren’t marketing another fun and exciting sports car with roughly translated voiceover and generic piercing exhaust note flybys. They’ve teamed up with LEGO again for another round of the Speed Champions line, and the toymaker got them to ease up on the corporate jargon to create a truly interesting video. You should definitely watch it, because it’s short, and it’s got a few feel-good moments.
If the video is convincing enough and you have to have your very own set, you don’t need to go all the way to the museum. The 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0 set is available on Amazon for under $50.00*. Last time we looked there was only one set left, so you’ll need to act fast!
