The fourth iteration of Porsche’s iconic GT3 RS is coming, and there’s no way you’re ever going to be ready for it. With each successive generation of 911, Porsche’s GT department manages to raise the bar to a place previously thought impossible. Every new GT3 RS gets more power, more tire, more electro-mechanical whiz-bangery, and manages to set an even faster Nurburgring lap time. The average Porsche driver hasn’t had what it takes to wring the most from a GT3 RS from the outset, but that’s not really the point. The GT3 RS has always been more capable than the vast majority of its drivers, and this new one ups the ante even farther. Every new version gets ever closer to its GT3 R race car version, and according to Andreas Preuninger, this newest 992-generation is more track focused than ever!
“The new 911 GT3 RS is even more optimized for track use than its predecessors. The incredibly responsive, high-revving four-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine with approximately 500 hp has proven ideal for use at track days and club sport events,” says Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Model Line. “That’s why we focused primarily on aerodynamics and chassis areas in the development of the new 911 GT3 RS.”
The photo above was released by Porsche on Tuesday as a preview of coming attractions. Porsche is scheduled to drop the new GT3 RS on August 17th at 11 AM eastern via a digital world premier. You can tune in yourself at newstv.porsche.com. But if you miss it, you’ll still be able to head to that site and watch the video on-demand after the fact.
So, what do you think the next GT3 is going to be? Will it be a hybrid power monster? A 10,000 RPM screamer? Maybe Porsche has developed an all-new engine specifically for this car. Could it be a flat-eight? Maybe that massive rear wing will be fitted with active aero for even better balance of downforce and top speed. What are your predictions?
