Porsche has already confirmed that this will be the final generation of Macan to be powered by a gasoline engine, moving to a fully electric lineup in the next generation. The thing is, when Porsche changes tack, they always move the nameplate to its ultimate progression before making that commitment to change. The new Macan Turbo is perhaps the ultimate gasoline-powered compact SUV in history. By making the current car as good as it is, Porsche is setting an incredibly high bar for itself in the development of the next generation.
Check out Mr. Rory Reid taking this ultimate Macan out for a full review. This is perhaps the most pragmatic review of the Macan we’ve seen, including a review of the back seat, the storage area in the rear hatch, and the totally awesome Euro tow-hitch feature! I like to think of the Macan as a hot hatch on stilts, because it drives with much more stability and grip than anything else in its class. Personally, I would have loved if Porsche had built this a few inches closer to the ground, but if you absolutely must have an SUV, this is a pretty great one to get.
Fast and powerful as it is, I expect the electric replacement next gen to be even faster and even more powerful. While the Macan is still burdened with a hydrocarbon-emitting internal combustion engine, it’s a good job that this one is as good as it is. Is this the last hurrah for Porsche’s twin-turbo V6 SUV? I bet they’ll build something even faster before this car’s time is up. Just watch this space for news as it comes out.
