The Frikadelli Racing Porsche team will start the ADAC Total 24 hours Rennen Nürburgring from pole position after absolutely dominating the Qualifications race a few weeks ago, but it’s not just the SP9 class at the top of the time sheets where the Porsche brand is represented. Throughout the field there will be 38 different Porsche teams contesting the grueling 24 hour race in Eifel, fighting for wins in ten different classes this weekend. This is an extremely tough race for all involved, but Porsche is as confident as it can be that this will be the German automaker’s 13th overall win at the 24 hour race, which has been held since 1970.
This race is run on a wild 25.378 kilometer combination of the famed Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit, making each lap a harsh and lengthy battle against the clock. This is an unusual challenge, as it means any issues out on the track will cause cars to tumble down the timesheets. If you suffer a tire puncture out at Hatzenbach, it could be half an hour or more of driving on a shot tire before you make it back to the pit lane. Crash damage out in the forest is almost surely a retirement from the race. It requires patient and talented drivers to negotiate traffic and stay ahead of the game, plus some truly unique strategy calls.
With 125 cars entering the race, Porsche’s 36-deep contingent means the crested brand will make up just shy of a third of the total grid!
“With almost 40 vehicles on this year’s grid line-up, Porsche is once again the most strongly represented brand. This once again emphasises the trust that customers have in our racing cars and our service,” says Michael Dreiser, Director Motorsport Sales. “We’re absolutely delighted and I’d like to thank them all very much for this. The performance and reliability of the cars are important factors on the way to possible success on the Nordschleife – and the rest is up to the drivers and teams. I’m certain that our customers are well prepared for the tough task ahead.”
